A woman charged in a fatal two-vehicle crash that killed a 74-year-old woman now faces more charges stemming from that June 2018 collision.

A Cobb County grand jury on Feb. 21 indicted Tracy Jane Latronica on six additional counts of serious injury by vehicle. She is also charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree.

Latronica, of Marietta, was driving a 2012 Ford Explorer around 9:30 p.m. June 24 on Roswell Road when she tried to make a left turn on Robinson Road, Cobb police previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The SUV collided with a 2012 Toyota Camry, which was driven by a 15-year-old teenager. A 74-year-old rear passenger, Begum Fazilatunnesa, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to an arrest warrant, officers who first arrived at the scene of the crash smelled alcohol on Latronica’s breath. A field sobriety test determined she was under the influence of alcohol “to an extent to make her a less safe driver.”

Latronica was taken into custody, and “admitted to drinking alcohol before she drove,” the warrant adds. The warrant also states the collision caused “serious brain injuries” to the teenage driver of the Camry.

Two passengers inside the Camry were also injured in the crash, the indictment spells out. One man suffered injuries to his left finger, right knee, shoulder and intestines. The crash also caused injuries to a woman’s left wrist, right elbow, left lung and right shoulder.

The AJC has reached out to Latronica’s attorney, and is waiting to hear back from the lawyer.
