Cobb County will raise monthly Emergency 911 charges from $1.25 to $1.50, beginning April 1.
The charge will affect landline and wireless telephone subscribers within the area served by Cobb E-911 and users of other technology that access E-911 by different means, including Voice Over Internet Protocol service, but not prepaid wireless service.
Without the increase, Cobb’s E-911 fund will have a shortfall to provide public safety response to emergencies.
According to county officials, Cobb has the only law enforcement agency in the state charging $1.25 instead of the maximum $1.50 allowed by the state. No increase to the surcharge has occurred to Cobb landline subscribers since 1990. The last increase to the surcharge on wireless service, from $1 to $1.25, occurred in 2010.
