A final public hearing and vote are scheduled during the 9 a.m. Tuesday meeting of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on the proposed special event parking registration.

This registration will allow property owners to charge for parking near large-scale events such as on Atlanta Braves game days.

Three major changes to the previous proposal are:

The registration fee will be set by the Cobb commissioners, but it is not contained in this special event parking code.

Not just for SunTrust Park, these parking registrations would affect major tourist attractions defined by the county as 12 or more acres for an amusement theme attraction, a park, convention center, performing arts center, an amphitheater, stadium “or other like attraction that promotes tourism in the county.”

Also, these parking registrations would be needed for special events on private or public properties, drawing at least 2,000 participants and spectators on any given day and involving one or more of six activities such as the closing of a public street.

At least 30 days before the initial special event “and any subsequent special events,” a nine-item application must be submitted to the Business License Division of the Cobb Community Development Agency.

If the one-year registration is approved, nine guidelines must be met on the event day.
