The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed 5-0 on Aug. 13 not to object to the annexation of 15 acres by Marietta.

Located in an island, the Marietta Church of God is the applicant for the land at 1083 Allgood Road.

The land will continue to be zoned residential by the city.

There is “no indication that the use will change from the current house of worship,” according to an Aug. 5 letter sent to Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin by Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce, Cobb District 2 Commissioner Bob Ott and Cobb District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell.

After Marietta city officials submit development plans for the site, then Cobb will conduct a formal plan review process.

The Cobb Department of Transportation does recommend to the city that curb, gutter and sidewalk be installed for the entire property frontage.
