When a stolen vehicle turned up a few miles away in front of an abandoned house, Cobb County police officers zeroed in. And brought a tank along, too.

But the house near Marietta was empty, and the two men accused of stealing the vehicle were still on the loose Thursday, Sgt. Dana Pierce told the AJC.

The two suspects allegedly pointed a gun at people in a yard near Windy Hill Road and demanded a vehicle, Pierce said. The duo then left in the Ford and drove to Pat Mell Road, where they parked it it front of house.

A SWAT team, including the armored tank, arrived at the house, but no one was inside, Pierce said.

"I was really surprised to see a tank pull up in somebody's front yard across the street," Keith Scruton told Channel 2 Action News. "It was a little nerve-wracking there, my adrenaline was pumping a little bit."

The two suspects remained on the loose Thursday evening.
