Cobb County School District Post 2 Representative Susan Thayer has been sworn in as a commissioner on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission by Governor Nathan Deal.

She joins more than a dozen commissioners to prepare and certify teachers in Georgia public schools.

Elected to the Cobb Board of Education last fall, Thayer has more than 30 years of experience in education, including as a teacher in Clayton County, the principal of Pebblebrook High School and a counselor at Osborne High School and the Cobb district’s central office.

She also was assistant superintendent of curriculum for Douglas County schools.
