The Cobb County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to approve Susan Thayer as the new chairwoman.

She replaces Randy Scamihorn for this one-year term.

Thayer is the Post 2 representative who began her term last January.

With more than 30 years of experience in education, she has been a teacher in Clayton County, the principal of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, a counselor at Osborne High School in Marietta, director of Leadership Development and executive director of High Schools with the Cobb County School System and assistant superintendent of Curriculum K-12 with the Douglas County School System.

Thayer also was sworn in by Gov. Nathan Deal last year to serve as a commissioner on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission that prepares and certifies teachers in public schools.
