The Cobb County Board of Education voted 7-0 Thursday to approve up to $3 million for the hiring of more teachers and support personnel, if needed, during the next academic year.

However, no board member would second the amendment of board member David Banks to his original motion, increasing this amount up to $15 million, saying it would pose “no risk to the school system whatsoever.”

The money would come from the general fund unassigned fund balance reserve for Superintendent Chris Ragsdale’s discretion “for growth purposes.”
