A Mexican eatery in Marietta failed its recent restaurant inspection in part because of flies in the kitchen and dirty equipment, according to a Cobb County health department report.
El Patron Mexican Restaurant, 1690 Powder Springs Road, scored a 49 on its Friday inspection. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.
The inspector reported “black residue” in some of the tea nozzles and a “heavy accumulation of food debris” in the microwaves and margarita machine.

El Patron was also docked points because its prep cooler was too warm, according to the report. All the food inside was thrown away and an “out of order” sign was put on the door.
There was also juice from thawing chicken found inside the sink that’s supposed to be for preparing fruits and vegetables.
Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
