Cobb property owners may bear more responsibility for allowing criminal activities to take place on their properties. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted recently to postpone action on a proposed public safety nuisance code.

This matter is expected to be considered during the commissioners’ meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 9 at 100 Cherokee St, second floor BOC Room, Marietta.

Property owners may be required to rid their properties of prostitution, gambling and unlawful uses of controlled substances, alcoholic beverages and weapons. First, property owners would be allowed to stop the activity voluntarily within 30 days and with a county-approved abatement plan. If the property owners do not stop the criminal activity, the county attorney’s office may request that a court allow county officials to stop the activity.
