Citizens for Cobb’s Future, the contingent of business, civic and chamber leaders, advocating for the extension of the county’s current sales tax, raised $232,900, according to campaign finance reports filed Monday.
The group’s contributions include $100,000 from the Cumberland Community Improvement District, $50,000 from transportation management association CobbRides; along with $25,000 from construction contractor C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, a regular contractor on county projects, and $10,000 from Atlanta Gas Light parent company AGL Resources.
The contribution lists includes a number of other developers and engineering firms, such as, Croy Engineering, which contributed $5,000, Arcadis gave $5,000 along with E.R. Snell Contractors and Thompson Engineering.
The pro-SPLOST group spent about $95,000 on campaign efforts, including $65,000 on voter identification and education information and $26,000 on voter polls and surveys.
SPLOST opponents, led by the Cobb County Taxpayers Association, have raised about $500 in cash and $1,000 in in-kind contributions.
Cobb is proposing extending the county’s current one percent sales tax for another four years. If approved by voters on March 15, the SPLOST is expected to generate $492 million for infrastructure maintenance projects for Cobb and its six cities.
