Cobb County Commissioners authorized 14 new part-time seasonal maintenance worker positions on Tuesday for shoulder and median maintenance and mowing and street sweeping services.

To cut costs, the county brought the work in house last year, but county crews had been unable to keep up with all of the work. The part-time workers will be organized into four maintenance crews, one per commission district, along with the permanent county employees. Cost for the 26-week part-time hires is $155,000, along with equipment, the full cost of the program is not to exceed $176,000.
