Georgia Department of Transportation crews will close an intersection as part of its project to widen a major thoroughfare in northern Cobb County.

Starting Wednesday, March 4, Collins Circle will close at Ga. 92 so crews can construct a new intersection, the agency said.

The closure is related to the project to widen Ga. 92 from Glade Road to U.S. 41/Cobb Parkway in Acworth.

Georgia DOT says the closure is expected to last 20 months. Anyone who uses Collins Circle will be diverted to Adams Circle during the closure. Message boards and signs will be in place to help drivers navigate the detour area.

The $58 million project, which is expected to be done by October 2022, will widen the road from a two-lane roadway to a highway with four lanes and a raised median.

It also calls for building three bridges over Allatoona Lake, Tanyard Creek and Ga. 293/CSX railroad, and replacing and relocating the bridge over Lake Acworth.

Once complete, this 2.8-mile stretch of Ga. 92 will also have a 10-foot multi-use trail on the east side of the road, a 12-foot shoulder with curb and gutter and a five-foot sidewalk on the west side of the highway.
