A final public hearing and vote are scheduled during the 9 a.m. Nov. 8 meeting of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on the proposed accessory special event parking license. This license will allow property owners to charge for parking near large-scale events, such Atlanta braves game day.
Though the matter was scheduled for a vote Tuesday, Dana Johnson, director of the Cobb Community Development Agency, told the commissioners his agency and the county attorney’s office need more time to make revisions.
Johnson said the revised ordinance would be made available to the public before the Nov. 8 public hearing.
It is not yet known what those revisions may be to the previous proposal which would require private companies to meet several requirements for approval before they could be issued county parking licenses.
Not just for SunTrust Park, these parking licenses would affect major tourist attractions defined by the county as 12 or more acres for an amusement theme attraction, a park, convention center, performing arts center, an amphitheater or a stadium “which promotes the tourism interests of the county.”
Also, these parking licenses would be needed for special events on private or public properties, drawing at least 2,000 participants and spectators and involving one or more of six activities such as the closing of a public street.
At least 30 days in advance of the initial special event “and any subsequent events of the same nature,” a nine-item application must be submitted to the Business License Division of the Cobb Community Development Agency.
Should the license be denied or revoked by the Business License Division, appeals may be made to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, then to the Cobb County Superior Court.
