The 20th anniversary of Cobb County’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be observed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 15.

This free event will be held at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.

GIS integrates hardware, software, mobile technology and data for capturing, managing, analyzing and displaying all forms of information that is referenced by geography.

Activities will include drone demonstrations, games, a map gallery and staff presentations.

Refreshments will be provided by Cool Beans Coffee.

Here are the topics:

  • 11:30 a.m.: What is GIS, and how has it evolved in Cobb?
  • 12:15 p.m.: How do GIS and maps enhance learning in schools?
  • 12:45 p.m.: How does Cobb use mobile GIS software for data collection and transit?
  • 1:30 p.m.: How has trail safety improved by using GIS and USNG?
  • 2 p.m.: Learn about location intelligence and GIS at the Cobb Department of Transportation.
