A horse got an unwanted and scary dip in an Acworth pool over the weekend.

A homeowner told Cobb County fire and rescue workers that he saw the following scene Sunday about 5:30 p.m.: While his horse was being chased by his dog, the horse jumped the pool fence and tried to walk on the pool cover but quickly fell in.

Cobb fire spokeswoman Denell Boyd said crews had to pump the pool at the home, located in the 5900 block of Old Stilesboro Road.

The pool had stairs, but the horse wasn’t having it.

“He was afraid and he wouldn’t come out,” Boyd said.

She said they built a 16-foot ramp, secured ropes around the horse and guided him out of the pool. The whole ordeal lasted more than 2½ hours.

“Bless his heart, he was an older horse,” Boyd said, “he’s lucky he didn’t get hurt.”
