Soon you can say hello to Cobb County’s fanciest new venue.

There will be an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting event for the new 41,00-square-foot Jim R. Miller Park Event Center on Sept. 7.

It cost $13,231,144 in 2016 SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds to build, said Tom Bills, a senior project manager for construction with the county.

It is the largest structure to be funded by the 2016 SPLOST. He said it cost $725K to design.

What used to be there was two buildings that were at least a half-century old, Bills said.

The new space will have 25,000 square feet of rentable exhibit and event areas.

Facility manager Cara Lynn said they have been getting bookings for weddings, which wasn’t happening in the old space.

But the first big event? None other than the North Georgia State Fair in September.

Lynn said the fair will have new events that can now be held outside.

“It is going to allow them to have a lot more,” she said.
