The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed 5-0 on Dec. 11 to install enhanced security systems for the Water System and the South Cobb Motor Vehicle Office.

They include two project agreements with Controlled Access Inc. for $141,075 for the installation of the county’s enterprise access control system at Water System facilities and $34,815 for the installation of the county’s enterprise access control and surveillance system at the South Cobb Motor Vehicle Office.

In 2017, Cobb departments included in the initial security rollout were Cobb Community Transit, Department of Public Safety, Department of Transportation, Tax Assessor’s Office, Tax Commissioner’s Office and the Water System.

This security expansion will assist the Water System with various access control systems - some of which are close to 20 years old with the hardware obsolete and unsupported.

Replacement of the access control systems will take place at the Water System’s four water reclamation facilities, all lift/pump stations, Field Operations Center, Central Maintenance Center, Customer Service Building and Water Quality Lab.

The Tax Commissioner’s Office has requested replacement of the security system at the South Cobb Motor Vehicle Office as a result of new security requirements.

Maintenance on all parts is covered under a three-year manufacturer’s warranty.
