The Cobb EMC Owners Association is standing by its vetting procedures for candidates for the EMC’s board of directors, and found no evidence to substantiate claims that co-op management influenced the process, according to an email sent from the group on Monday.

Some candidates and EMC members have alleged that co-op leaders instructed co-op employees, who are also EMC members, to support candidates backed by EMC management. CEOA hosted two rounds of candidate vetting last week and EMC members at the meeting were allowed to vote for their preferred candidate. Candidates endorsed by CEOA have gone on to be elected to the EMC’s board.

“Without doubt there will be some who agree with our position while others will continue to voice their disagreement,” said CEOA coordinator David Welden in the email.

The final round of candidate vetting is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Butch Thompson Enterprises, 2131 Moon Station Drive in Kennesaw. All EMC members, with an EMC bill and photo ID, are allowed to cast ballots.

A general election for six open seats on the EMC’s board is set for March 31.
