The first phase of development will begin for Cobb County’s 103-acre park property on Discovery Boulevard along the Chattahoochee River.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a contract on Aug. 28 with Clark Patterson Lee for $91,990 under the 2016 PARKS Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program.

That company will provide architectural and engineering design services.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with this project.

In the early 1990s, Cobb County bought this land along the river on what is now Discovery Boulevard.

This property includes more than one mile of river frontage and a variety of well-preserved Civil War-era earthworks, according to Cobb PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi.

A large portion of this property has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In March, the commissioners approved the Master Plan for this passive park, including a small parking lot, restroom structure, interpretive signage and trails related to the historical features and river front access on this site.
