Cobb County has a new opioid awareness initiative by using geography and GIS maps to visualize and study patterns in the data.

In 2017, there were 75 deaths in Cobb County related to opioid overdoses, according to a county statement.

Georgia is one of 13 states receiving the highest mark from the National Safety Council for taking wide-ranging actions to eliminate opioid overdoses and help county residents.

Cobb’s goal is to bring awareness to the problem through this new website at OpioidAwareness-CobbCountyGa.OpenData.arcgis.com.

There Cobb residents will find data and collections of maps and apps to locate drug treatment and alternative pain management facilities in the community and around Georgia.

Maps and data will allow “everyone in the community - from families to researchers to elected officials - to get on the same page and work together towards practical solutions,” officials said.
