A 15-year-old girl is in custody for making threats of violence toward an Austell high school Wednesday, said Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk.
The girl didn’t have the materials to carry out her unspecified threat at South Cobb High School, Delk told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“There was no intent on her part to actually carry out the threat, she had some other motive to make the threat,” he said.

The schools around metro Atlanta have seen a spike in violent threats since ex-student Nikolas Cruz admittedly gunned down 17 people at his former school on Valentine's Day. Metro-area schools have responded.
“Although the majority of these threats are fake and without any true merit, they are still handled as legitimate threats by law enforcement agencies until the evidence uncovered shows them to not be valid,” according to a Cobb police news release.
John Stafford, spokesman for Cobb schools, said the girl is a South Cobb student.
He said she was out of classes today for an unknown reason but sent the threat to another student who then alerted an administrator.
Stafford said the school district’s police will be the ones to file charges but said officers are still determining what those charges will be.
