Cobb County police continue to investigate a fatal head-on collision late Friday in Acworth that left one driver dead and sent another to a hospital.
Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce on Saturday identified the driver who was killed as Mitchell Davis of Acworth. Davis, 32, died at the scene on Cheatham Road near Pitner Road.
Police say that for reasons unknown, Davis was traveling northbound on Cheatham Road in his green 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier when he crossed the double yellow line and collided with a black 2003 Toyota 4 Runner driven by Rebecca Simonski of Acworth.
Simonski, 41, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Earlier reports said Davis was suspected of driving while under the influence, and callers had reported a motorist driving erratically before the accident.
Police spokesman Pierce, however, said it isn't know whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call 770-499-3987.
