A decision on a new boat storage facility near Lake Allatoona was delayed Tuesday by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
The Tumlin Family Partnership is requesting rezoning from residential and general commercial to light industrial for Golden Anchor Boat Storage.
Covered and uncovered secured parking would be provided for recreational vehicles and boats at 4321 Acworth Dallas Road and north of Dallas Acworth Highway near the flea market.
In opposition, Kelly Gambrell of People Looking After Neighborhoods noted the county staff recommended denial and there are two boat storage facilities within a half mile of this proposed facility in either direction.
Also in opposition, Ken Horton, owner and developer of nearby Governors Towne Club, a private gated golf club community that is a part of his 1,000-acre site, said he has plans to develop an area similar to the Marietta Square with residential, dining, retail and a movie theater surrounding the greenspace.
If his plans are approved, Horton said the boat storage facility would not be compatible with his development.
In making his motion to postpone a decision, Commissioner Bob Weatherford said the flea market is ten times worse than boat storage.
Weatherford said he wanted the delay to review Horton’s development plans since they were not submitted until Tuesday.
