A new position of Cobb Chairman’s Assistant for Special Projects has been created at the request of Chairman Mike Boyce.

His request received 4-0 approval Tuesday of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, with Boyce recusing himself.

Boyce introduced Michael Murphy, executive advisor to the Austell Community Task Force, as his choice.

Murphy’s salary will be $81,979.

“For the office of Chairman to continue to operate efficiently and effectively, it has become necessary to increase the staffing assigned to this office,” Boyce wrote in a Tuesday memo to the commissioners.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Boyce said Murphy would handle such assignments as discussions with Atlanta Braves and state officials.

A former Dunkin Donuts official, Murphy also is a former elected official from Massachusetts.
