The Cobb County Civic Coalition wants the county Board of Commissioners to rescind a vote to spend $3 million on a portion of a transit study.

The Commission voted 4-1 (Bob Ott opposing) to spend the money on an environmental impact study to move forward with whatever transit method is recommended in an analysis for the northwest corridor area. That analysis is due later this year.

The Coalition, and Ott, have said the money should not be spent because the analysis is not yet complete, and because county voters rejected a regional transportation tax plan last month that included a $689 million project to enhance transit service on Cobb Parkway.

Eighty percent of the $3 million environmental study will be funded by the Federal Transit Administration. Cobb is responsible for a 20 percent, or $600,600, match.
