Cobb cabbies target of crime spree
Cabbies in Cobb County have suffered a spate of robberies in recent weeks, the latest on Saturday.
A man driving an Acuario Taxi was knifed by a man he picked up in the 1000 block of Franklin Road in Marietta around 11 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Dana Pierce of the Cobb County Police Department said Monday.
The passenger fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash after nicking the cab driver on the neck, Pierce said. The cabbie suffered only a minor injury and refused medical treatment.
Two cab drivers were robbed in two other incidents earlier this month. Both of those robberies occurred on Karastan Court in Marietta, according to Cobb County police.
On Aug. 8, a driver for Style Transportation was dispatched to pick up two young men, who asked the driver to take them to Karastan Court. Once there, the suspects, who were about 18 years old, "produced handguns and demanded personal items and money from the driver," Cobb police spokesman Joe Hernandez said last week. The gunmen then fled on foot.
On Aug. 4, a Taxi International driver was robbed near the intersection of Karastan Court and Windage Drive by three males about 16 to 18 years old. Two of the suspects in that robbery were armed with handguns, the third with a knife.
Saturday's incident occurred as the cab approached the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Spectrum Circle. The assailant, who was wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt, was described as 5-foot-7, 180 pounds and about 26- to 28-years-old. The victim told police that his assailant could not open one of his eyes.
