The Cobb Board of Commissioners recently agreed to spend $138,410 for seven automatic license plate readers.

Police officers will use the system, that is installed on patrol cars, to scan and interpret car tag numbers to find criminals, stolen cars or tags and suspended registrations. Applied Intelligence Systems received the bid for the plate readers with funding to come from the Cobb Police Department capital budget.

The Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta, Sandy Springs and Gwinnett police departments use automatic tag readers.
