The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 Aug. 25 to accept ownership of three detention ponds but not for their appearance, which could cost residents thousands for annual maintenance.

One lot is in the Greyfield on Oak Lane subdivision, and the other two are in the New Macland Place subdivision.

Greyfield’s Homeowners Association will pay for the aesthetic maintenance of the pond and surrounding lot, but New Macland Place does not have an HOA.

However, the county’s water department will be responsible for paying for their functional maintenance.
