Cobb County officials said Wednesday morning that calls to the emergency 911 system were not working for about an hour.

Residents can once again call 911 if they have an emergency, officials said.

The 911 system went down at about 9 a.m., but the backup system was operational by 10. The system was later fully restored.

During the outage, Cobb officials asked that those unable to connect to 911 to call the main Cobb County Police Department number -- 770-499-3900.

An equipment failure was thought to be the cause of the problem.

The Cobb 911 system has never experienced a similar failure, officials said.
