Forsyth County officials say a brand-new climbing tower at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve will open in mid-April and will be be available for both individual climbers and groups like camps, birthday parties and group programs.

The tower offers multiple routes that range from 32 to 38 feet and can be used for both top-rope and lead climbing and for rappelling as well. Park officials say the tower offers more than 2,000 square feet of climbing space and can accommodate up to 10 climbers and two rappellers at once. Belay clinics and climbing programs will be added beginning in August.

The $60,000 tower was constructed after a same-sized donation from the Sawnee Mountan Foundation.

The preserve is at 4075 Spot Road in Cumming and can be reached at 770-781-2217.
