Clayton State University plans to open a film training program that it hopes will lead to the formation of a full-fledged film school. The program is being created in two phases. The university’s Center for Continuing Education will oversee the first phase which will be an introduction to the film industry. Students will learn everything from the history and overview of the film industry as well as production, lighting, grip, set design, film editing and more. That program is set to open in the fall of 2013. The second phase, which is in development, will be a degreed program and focus on digital media, film production and other skills. Getting approval for the degreed program will likely take several years. The film program is being created at the request of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which is partnering with the university to develop the film school.
