The Clayton County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 19 rescinded a contract awarded to C and S Construction and Consulting Inc. to demolish the Battlecreek Apartment complex.

The company’s original bid for the job did not include the cost of asbestos removal. An amended bid was more than $112,000 higher than the lowest bid which was offered by Atlanta Demolition Inc.

The difference in the bids require the county to rescind the award to C and S Construction since funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be used for the project. HUD requires the county take the lowest bid when using HUD funds.

The board voted unanimously to rescind the contract and to award the demolition project to Atlanta Demolition.
