Clarkston recently broke ground on a new facility for its public works department.

The 2,500-square-foot building on Montreal Creek Court will include office space and a conference/training room as well as open bays to repair equipment and a barn to house sand, gravel and other materials.

The city is using a $335,000 loan from the Georgia Municipal Association for the building. It will repay the debt over five years, at 3 percent interest.

The new facility is expected to open this summer.
