Contrary to Twitter rumors, civil rights icon Dorothy Height is alive and well in a Washington D.C. hospital.

Ron Harris, Howard University hospital spokesman told the AJC around 5 p.m. Saturday that Height, considered the “godmother of the civil rights movement,” is resting well in the medical intensive unit at the hospital.

A string of tweets began making their way across Twitter Saturday afternoon that Height passed away around noon.

Height, who is chair and president emerita of the National Council of Negro Women, turned 98 March 24. She has been recovering from a “brief illness” at Howard University Hospital since March 18, according to reports.
