Tyrone is implementing changes to its noise ordinance, following the Dec. 5 approval of revisions by the town council.
Chapter 28 of its code now includes more detailed provisions regarding noise control, which Town Manager Brandon Perkins says were modeled after the Fayette County ordinance. The town says the changes were necessary because of noise problems observed and documented by Tyrone officials that could present “physiological and psychological dangers” and affect health, safety, property values and the environment. The new rules define what is considered excessive noise during day and night hours, whether coming from vehicles, equipment, concerts, individuals or animals.
Enforcement will be at the discretion of the town administrator and/or police department. Permits temporarily exempting certain activities from the noise rules can be applied for through the town for a $25 fee.
