The city of Atlanta is one step closer to launching the Energy Savings Performance Contract Initiative which will evaluate 181 city buildings for energy and water usage.

Last week city council approved five contracts and selected four energy savings companies to conduct audits on city facilities. Based on the audit, recommendations will be made for phase two of the initiative which will involve retro-commissioning of the city’s buildings.

The program seeks to maximize energy savings by improving energy, water, and sewage usage in the Department of Watershed Management, the Department of Aviation, the Office of Enterprise Asset Management, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation properties.

The selected facilities are more than 25,000 square feet and account for more than half of Atlanta’s energy consumption.

Companies that have been awarded contracts to complete the investment grade audits include: Ameresco ARS LLC, Noresco-Sg LLC, Schneider Electric/ME Cubed Engineering JV and Johnson Controls.
