A cigarette is believed to have caused another fire in metro Atlanta, officials said.

The fire at the ARIUM Dunwoody apartments on Gentry Walk was due to smoking, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said. It was accidental in nature.

Red Cross volunteers responded to the fire about 5 a.m. Monday, agency spokeswoman Divina Mims Puckett said. Volunteers helped six families with food, clothing and shelter, according to the Red Cross.

"Caseworkers will continue to work with an additional 8 families in the days ahead to help them all get back on their feet,” Mims Puckett said.

The blaze is the second one sparked by a cigarette in recent days.

Christie Lewis, 44, died Saturday morning after a fire at her Spalding County home. Her son, 6-year-old Zachary Shavers Tobias Sevenstar, died Sunday.

The fire started when a cigarette was tossed in a trash can, officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
