Atlanta police Monday were trying to determine who stole a safe full of money from a Buckhead church overnight.

Sunday night, a Northside United Methodist Church employee left the church on Northside Drive "locked and secure," Atlanta police spokesman James Polite said.

"This morning, another employee came to the church and found the church safe missing," Polite said. "The safe contained a very large unknown amount of currency."

Polite said there was no forced entry into the building.

Investigators were working Monday to identify more than 50 people with access to the church, Polite said.
