Downtown Decatur is getting a communal Christmas tree on the roof of a row of shops and restaurants.

The Little Shop of Stories book shop on the town square will host a lighting of the tree at 7 p.m. Thursday.

"Come on out and celebrate this new tradition as we sing songs of the season and eat sweet treats and maybe get a visit from a jolly man in a red suit," the store says on its website. It says the tree is 25 feet tall.
