Children’s author Carmen Deedy will speak at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrenceville branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library, 1001 Lawrenceville Highway.

A native of Cuba, Deedy came to the United States as a refugee in 1964 and grew up in Decatur. She has been writing for children for more than 20 years. Illustrator Michael White also will appear at the free event.
