Cherokee woman struck, killed after falling in crosswalk

Aug 21, 2012

A Cherokee County woman died Monday night after being struck by a car as she attempted to cross the highway, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Melanie June Mayes, 51, of Acworth, was walking across Ga. 92 at the intersection of Wade Green Road when she fell in the crosswalk around 10:30 p.m., Gordy Wright, GSP spokesman, said Tuesday afternoon.

Mayes was hit by a 2006 Pontiac G6 driven by Tiffany Tashay Thuesdee, 25, also of Acworth, Wright said. Mayes died at the crash scene, less than a mile from her home, address records show.

Thuesdee remained at the scene, investigators said. No charges have been filed.

The wreck, not far from the Cobb County line, remains under investigation, Wright said.
