The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved design contracts totaling more than $50,000 to improve two “T” intersections of Univeter Road east of Holly Springs.

The county awarded a $25,970 contract to MaesAwyr LLC to plan improvements to the intersection of Univeter and Pinecrest Road. While the intersection’s traffic volume does not meet the minimum for a traffic signal, it could use such improvements as a channelized right-turn lane from Pinecrest and a left-turn lane from Univeter, staff said in a report to commissioners.

Commissioners also approved a $25,000 contract to Southeastern Engineering Inc. to design intersection improvements for Univeter at New Light Road. A traffic study found the intersection had sufficient volume to install a signal.

Southeastern is to evaluate the study findings and recommend the best solution — a signal and associated turn lanes, or a roundabout, based on existing roadway geometry, utilities, rights of way and total project cost, staff said.
