Cherokee County announced it is taking applications for the 2020 Community Development Block Grant program and has scheduled two workshops in May to go over the program process and timeline.

Workshop attendance is not mandatory but recommended, officials said. The sessions are 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 2, and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the Cherokee County Administration Building, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton. To reserve a spot at the workshops, contact Laura Calfee, lcalfee@cherokeega.com.

The block grant program funds efforts to substantially benefit low- and moderate-income persons. They include “home repair projects; public facilities (curb and gutters, buildings such as senior centers, or non-profit facilities); and public services, such as transportation or staff support,” according to a county announcement.

Applications and supporting materials are due by 4 p.m. Friday, June 21. For information and applications: http://www.cherokeega.com/CDBG
