The Cherokee County School District has set registration dates for kindergarteners and first-graders heading to school for the first time. Registration will be held 3:30 to 6 p.m. April 30 and 9 a.m. to noon May 1, at all elementary schools.

Students turning five on or before Sept.1 are eligible for kindergarten, and those turning six on or before the same date are eligible for first grade. But district officials stress that a proposal in the Georgia General Assembly could change the cutoff eligibility date to Aug. 1

Prospective students and their parents need to bring several items for submission, including proof of date of birth, proof of parent/legal guardianship and proof of immunization.
