The Cherokee County School Board has renewed a partnership agreement with area American Legion posts that includes the introduction of a special graduation cord to be presented to graduating high school seniors entering military service.

The agreement, with American Legion Posts 45 and 316 and their auxiliary units, also has the school board promoting the legion’s programs, including nominating students for various awards, scholarships and contests; and give opportunities for each high school JROTC program to present the colors or conduct a drill and ceremony display at the American legion’s monthly meetings.

The American Legion, in turn, will provide scholarship opportunities; present awards at JROTC Honor Days/Nights; conduct a middle school essay contest, American Legion School Awards and National High School Oratorical Contest; assist in Veterans Day programs; and provide information about the American Legion Operation Comfort Warrior Program to assist low-income veteran families, among other tasks.
