The Cherokee County School District has announced pay raises for substitute teachers effective Dec. 1 to $90 a day — the third-highest pay for substitutes in metro Atlanta, officials said.

Previously, the district used a three-tiered pay rate based on qualifications of up to $75 a day. The new daily rate is $90 across the board, the same structure as in most area school systems. The time commitment for substitutes also will rise, from 7½ to 8 hours a day.

All substitutes will continue to be required to have a high school diploma or GED, undergo a pre-employment screening including a criminal background check and fingerprinting, and attend a substitute training workshop.

To apply, go to: www.cherokeek12.net and click on "Jobs@CCSD." The next training workshop is Dec. 2.
