Cherokee County School District officials have revised their contingency plans for dismissing school early on inclement weather days. The changes cover dismissals from two to five hours early and are effective immediately.
Superintendent Brian Hightower said in an email to parents the revised plan calls for high school, middle school, STEM/Fine Arts and ACE academy dismissal to begin prior to elementary schools. He said that allows less-experienced high school drivers to clear out ahead of impending weather, brings older siblings home ahead of elementary students and gives elementary students more time to contact their parents about the closing of after-school programs.
Hightower said the only exception will be when dismissals are an hour early or less, with elementary schools then releasing first.
