Students from Cherokee High School’s welding program competed at the National High School Senior Welding Competition hosted by Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, Fla.

Pictured from left, seniors Eric Cochran, Jack Elwell, Ed Herrera, Jacob Little and Damon Sheffield competed against 200 students from across the country.

Ed Herrera placed second and won a $9,000 scholarship to continue his welding education, along with other prizes such as welding equipment, a welding hood and other tools. Jacob Little placed 12th and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship, as well as a new welding hood and tools. Each of the students earned a $500 award for their efforts.
