The Cherokee County School Board has approved a partnership agreement with a faith-based organization to provide school supplies and clothing to children of low-income families.

Under the partnership agreement, Give a Kid a Chance-Cherokee Inc. will conduct an event prior to the beginning of the school year so children who are registered with the group will receive backpacks filled with school supplies, socks, underwear and like-new clothing appropriate for school. Children also will have the opportunity for vision and dental health screenings and other services.

Cherokee schools, in turn, will promote the group, allow it to use two mobile classrooms at ACE Academy for storage at no charge, and explore and pursue joint grant opportunities, among other provisions.

Now in its 10th year, Give a Kid a Chance is a nonprofit involving more than 40 churches, ministries, civic groups and businesses. It has helped more than 19,000 students.
